Daily Beat: a drum groove puzzle every day
Hear a two-bar drum groove and rebuild it on the grid in five guesses. A new beat every day, played with real drum sounds, with a result you can share.
Every day there is one two-bar drum groove. Listen to it, rebuild it on the grid by ear, and check your guess. Correct hits lock in, wrong ones grey out, and you have five guesses. It is played with a sampled drum kit, the same one the metronome uses, so what you hear is a real beat, not a beep pattern.
What this tool includes
Hear the beat
You get two listens, and each one plays the groove twice through, so listen hard for the kick, the snare and the hats. Your own grid stays silent until the puzzle is over.
Rebuild it
Tap cells on the grid to place hits. Each voice tells you how many hits it has, so you always know how many are left to find.
Five guesses
Check a guess and the feedback marks what is right. After three guesses a hint about the feel unlocks; the grid itself is never revealed early.
Share the result
A solved puzzle gives you an emoji grid with the day’s number and your score, and a streak that grows one day at a time.
How to use this tool
- Play the groove and count along; find the snare first, because the backbeat is usually the loudest and easiest hit.
- Place the kicks around it, then the hats. Check the guess: locked cells stay, greyed cells were wrong.
- Use the counts per voice and the locked hits to narrow the next guess. Most beats fall in three or four guesses once the kick is right.
- After a win, read which groove it was, practise the full version in the groove library, or play a practice beat while you wait for tomorrow’s.
Daily Beat questions
When does a new beat arrive?
At midnight in your local time zone. Everyone gets the same puzzle on the same calendar day, so results can be compared.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no account. Your streak and statistics are stored in your browser.
What are the grooves?
Real drum patterns from the site’s groove library: rock, funk, soul, hip-hop, reggae, Latin, jazz and odd time. Every solved puzzle names the groove and links to its page, where you can read the pattern hit by hit and practise it at any tempo.
Can I play more than one a day?
Practice mode gives you extra beats that do not count toward your streak or statistics.
